good ol' high contrast

hi there

sorry about the lack of blog yesterday, i was too busy having a great friday night :)

I tried out some high contrast things today, with a photo that I took while i was in Oregon, as well as a photo that i was just fooling around with today.

I know the portrait isnt overly amazing, but i just wanted to see if i could light myself with a work light and get some extremely contrasty photos, so bare with it.

thats all for now

zone system and a HDR

hey there

i figured i would try out some zone system things today, I know this might not mean much to someone reading this blog, but i want to keep a running track of it for myself, sorry pals. If you really want to know what the zone system is feel free to drop me a line and i will do my best to explain it. I remember Blair telling us never to keep a white at zone 5, because it just makes it a midtone grey and that is very unappealing, so i took a few shots, one at zone 7, one at zone 6, one at zone 5 and one at zone 4. Then just for fun, i made a HDR image, :)

if i actually have any readers out there, tell me which one you like the best. also, mind the dirty-ness of my lens, I should really get myself an can of air, or something to clean that, maybe an artic butterfly.

the photos go as followed (starting from the bottom): 1. Zone 7 2. Zone 6 3. Zone 5 4. Zone 4 5. HDR image

I feel that i like zone 6 the most because it brings light into the image without completely blowing out the snow

forgot my journal, so i have to blog all week, nice!

hey there

this weekend i just took it easy but set up a little studio in my basement, it was fun to fool around with the light and just have a good time. i had a flash set up right behind me to blow out the background and a flash to the right of the camera, i wanted another light for a fill but i didn't bring another vivitar home with me, so i had to do without it, I had also hoped to do a bit of key shifting tonight but the Olympics got in my way and i had to watch the USA vs Canada hockey game (which disappointed me quite a bit!

here is a shot from the weekend, and ill be happy to see ya tomorrow blog.

Hi there world, its been a while, lets catch up

Well hello there blog

I cant believe i havent written anything or photog'ed anything in so long!!!
so here i am to start over, because i need to learn what i need to learn in order to be amazing at my trade which is photography :)

here is a shot where i was just checking out flash/ambient light ratios, i did it very quickly because i was loosing alot of light (as i only get to shoot when im done work and that doesnt leave me alot of time to plan or create) so i hope you enjoy, even if no one looks at the photo haha.

I will be posting more interesting blogs soon as i start to fiddle around with my flash ratios, and things, mostly i will be shooting outside as i would like to get my understanding of flash /ambient light figured out before i become the best new thing in the world of snowboarding :)

have fun checking out my stinky boots haha.
